The Diary of Laura Gelding

Page 26

Dear Ethan, I had been contemplating something very long until now. Of course, you would ask me what that might be, although I was very certain that you would not want to know. Perhaps you can remember how long you had been avoiding me. You may still remember how long and how much I cared for you, despite that you seemed not to care for me. So, what had I been contemplating? I shall tell you.

I had been thinking, what would be the finest, the best vengeance on you? When I knew what I wanted to do, i set out planning it. I began by visiting the Arkham Library for my source materials. The assistant librarian on duty showed me a set of books and clippings which he believed would help me. I went, left and returned. After three days and nights, I found what I wanted. There was a particular black book, like Abdul al Hasred's Necronomicon, which contained a few pages on the task of claiming or purchasing the souls of those who avoid and despise us, so that they will love us and care for us even against their wills.

Ethan, I borrowed the book and, in my bedroom, I prepared the spell in which I mentioned your name and included your recent photograph. I uttered the words of that spell thoughtfully for two more nights. Can you truly understand what I did, Ethan? I purchased your soul for an eternity. Only then, you will love and care for me, who you have ignored and despised so much. We will be together forever!
Diary entry of an ignored and slighted young woman who concludes that she must use a book like Necronomicon to make the man she desires love her forever.
