For Puabi

Evening rain fell late but sure;
I felt it in the cool afternoon air,
I saw it in the dark sky overhead,
While those around me ceased to care.
--They ran indoors, and there they stayed.
In spite of the dampness and the chill,
Two hearts delight in the newfound tranquility,
Until they have their fill.
The air around us is fresh and pure;
For it must be, and it will.
