Valse Triste

"Erica, my love, you know that we cannot continue this way too long. "
"Yes, Philip, I know it. "

They continued arm in arm throughout the night uninterrupted. Nobody knew that they were on the premises. Nobody saw them dance. But they knew that, sooner or later, they would finally end. They continued to dance their waltz until almost dawn.

Philip Stanley and Erica Swift were lovers and had intended to marry that year. Philip was a technician for a high tech firm and Erica was a secondary school teacher. Philip was earning almost top sales profit before May that year. Erica was a popular teacher. Then they took a holiday on new south wales at month end and had a sudden fatal accident. They died almost simultaneously and the hospital claimed that they wanted to be together after death. It was more than a joke.

They continued to embrace as they danced. Erica tried to forget that their time was limited. The master had warned them that their new life was only a few hours. They had asked for longer than that. It was not possible or the master had claimed that much. They endeavored to make the most of their time together. Awareness of the fact made it a very sad waltz.
