Part One introduces the two teenage heroines who fall prey to a dastardly plan to have the younger girl, 15, stay with Hari Rajpal, a Hindu scholar who has suddenly replaced the Vedas with Al-Azif, delivered by Nyarlathotep as Black Man. The villainess, Shreya, is an aghori, or sorceress and his friend. She hypnotizes the older girl and forces her to murder her parents so that they will be orphaned and helpless.
