A Land Only She/I May Know

For Puabi

I.

Far, far away, and long ago,

In a land that only she may know,

We wander together,

Wherever we wish to go.

She leads me to her market place,

A sweet, shy smile upon her face;

To show me something

That she is pleased to show.

‘Beloved, look here!’

‘Well, that is very pretty.’

‘Shall I wear it?’

‘Yes, do that.’

‘Beloved!’

II.

Close by, here and now,

In a land that I have come to stay,

We wander together,

Like we did then.

I lead her to the market place,

To show her what only I can know.

A shy smile appears upon her face,

As I lift it up to show.

I tell her what, and how, and why;

A faint glow appears in her eyes.

And we all can know what there is to know.

Comparison of Puabi's time with ours together, here and now.
